Jacqueline Hentzen tells us how being part of – and leading – a team at Descartes is a fulfilling opportunity for a relationship builder and problem solver; and how it’s not as simple as it sounds. She says, “Although I’m not technical, I thrive in a position where I work with Technology teams, bringing forward their strengths to optimize business for our customers and creating a positive, dynamic environment.”
What drew you to Descartes when you first joined, and why do you stay?
Descartes is an international organization with many customers using an incredible range of products to manage complex logistics. The products we build and provide are ones the global economy – and customers – depend on to effectively manage their business operations.
In addition to the trusting professional relationships with my colleagues, the culture of learning and professional growth is rewarding. In my role as Expertise Centre Manager for our TM – ID product in EMEA, I’m continuously challenged to manage layered issues and relationships. I thrive when I’m presented with the opportunity to grow my knowledge, apply my intelligence, and push my comfort level. As part of the management here, I’m given a chance to bring out the best in myself and build collaborative teams.
How do you know you are making an impact at Descartes?
I consider myself a connector; someone who builds bridges between customers and companies, co-workers and colleagues across different geographies. I like to live on both sides of the customer relationship, balancing empathy and logic. I’m both a leader and an influencer as I model the expectations I have for my team by building connections with our top stakeholders. It demonstrates that trust and personality are vital to ensuring product satisfaction.
If you are someone who tackles complex problems with a logical approach, proactively considering the results of your plan several steps ahead, this is the place to grow your career and feel the impact you make every day. We’re hiring, check out our opportunities on our ‘Join Our Team’ page.
