Job description, responsibilities and duties

Are you looking for an opportunity to work for a dynamic, growing organization? We are looking for an individual to join our team and be a part of the excitement and growth at The Descartes Systems Group Inc.! We are currently seeking a Linux Systems Engineer in Slovakia to join our Global Linux Team. This team consists of several System Administrators and System Engineer located in the North America and EMEA regions.

 

Your responsibilities are situated in the following domains:

• Maintain, document and support our Linux based production servers and services running in a 24/7 environment

• Solving incidents

• Apply changes and updates following our change processes

• Automate tasks and processes like server deployments, patching 

• Work closely with Operations, Engineering, Development and other departments;

• Migrate on premise environments to the cloud 

• Report to the Global Linux Manager.

• Participate in the on call team.

 

Basic wage component (gross) and other rewards

from 1.300 EUR brutto/month according the relevant working experience, skills and language level

Requirements for the employee

Candidates with education suit the position

Secondary with school-leaving examination

University education (Bachelor's degree)

University education (Master's degree)

English - Upper intermediate (B2)

 

Other knowledge

UNIX/Linux - basic

UNIX/Linux administration - advanced

 

Personality requirements and skills

• Customer service-oriented attitude and solution driven

• Deeper knowledge of administrating Linux server and software 

• Linux certifications such as RHCSA and/or RHCSE

• Excellent and proven verbal and written communication both in your local language and English

• Ability to effectively handle multiple concurrent projects and/or tasks

• Must be able to work in a team setting

• Pro-active attitude on task and processes

• Must be able to participate in rotating on-call shifts

 

Working experiences considered as an asset:

• Setting up and maintaining modern Linux services, (Ubuntu, CentOS)

• Setting up and maintaining MySQL databases

• Setting up and maintaining Linux clustering technologies (Corosync)

• Hands-on experience with standard Linux services such as TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP(S), SSH, SMTP, NTP

• Hands-on experience with setting up and maintaining SMTP Postfix, Pro FTP and LDAP connections 

• Good understanding about security functions (proxy, firewall, encryption and certificates)

• Knowledge of Puppet, Ansible and or spacewalk, 

• experience with working in cloud environments such as Azure, AWS or Google
